Inlet Protection

Inlet Protection

The Inlet Protection uses a specific design of inlet, combined with a snorkel, to condition the flow to the inlet of the outflow pipe or channel. This is a non-blocking solution so allows for a more rapid dispersal of  contained bodies of water. In fact the Inlet Protection serves 3 functions:

  1. It allows the retained water to drain away through the exit pipe unobstructed.
  2. It allows any gross pollutants to migrate to the immediate vicinity of the exit pipe without causing blockage.
  3. It creates a maintenance point for the collection of the gross pollutants.

Site Requirements

Target Pollutant Class

The Inlet Protection is not targeted at a particular pollutant class, however is does create a maintenance point for capturing the Gross Pollutants

Water Sources \ Velocity

The Inlet Protection is primarily used for sites with low velocity flow. The Inlet Protection is suitable for treating the following water sources:

  • Pipes
  • Channels

Grades

The Inlet Protection itself is not reliant on any specific grade, however the pipe or channel it is treating will require a grade.

Treatable Flow

The  Inlet Protection is suitable for treating flows from as low as a 3 month ARI to a 100 year ARI.

We don't treat the "first flush", we treat the whole flow for the duration of the event.

Configuration

Size

The size of the Inlet Protection Trap is dependent on the:

  • Cross Sectional area of the outflow device,
  • Velocity,

To give you an idea of sizing here is a sample set of configurations.

Sample Configuration Sizing

Note: These figures are indicative only and do not represent the largest or smallest sizes we can treat. If you need an estimate size for your plans please contact us and we will be able to provide this information to you over the phone if you can provide some or all of the Site Requirements.

Lidded

The  Inlet Protection is a lidded solution.

Pollutant Storage

The Inlet Protection device itself has no storage, however it does act as a maintenance point for Gross Pollutant collection.

Trap Access

The access for the Inlet Protection is totally dependent on the existing access for the outflow device.

Installation

Standard equipment and modular construction combine to make installation convenient with minimum interruption or alteration to existing conditions. Deep excavation is not a required with the Inlet Protection.

Cleaning

Cleaning of the Inlet Protection is dependent on the site requirements but any of the following can be used with this solution.

  • Eductor Vacuum
  • Manually Cleaned

Please Note: If a trap is to be cleaned manually, there are minimal Occupation Health and Safety issues as the captured pollutants are dry.
