Mirror Vane Trap
Mirror Vane Trap
The Mirror Vane trap uses two strategically placed sets of vertical vanes, placed at varying heights, to guide the pollutants into the containment bays. We use the available energy in the water flow to transport the Gross Pollutants into the containment bays where is can drain dry upon the abatement of the flow. This is the basis of our catch phrase
Removing the Gross Pollutants to from the water flow into the containment bay is how we achieve "Dry Rubbish".

Where Used
The Mirror Vane trap is used in medium to high velocity sites where there is minimal headloss (depth to invert) available. If headloss is available then one of our "Rack" based traps may be more suitable.
Site Requirements
Target Pollutant Class
The Mirror Vane trap is targeted at capturing the Gross Pollutant class of pollutants, however history shows they capture a varying amount of sediment as well.
Water Sources / Velocity
The Mirror Vane trap is primarily used for sites with medium to high velocity flows. The Mirror Vane trap is suitable for treating the following water sources:
- Dual Pipes
- Multiple Pipes (with a conversion pit)
- Small Channels
- Culverts
Grades
The Mirror Vane trap is suitable for grades from less than 0.05% to any grade. Please note while we can cater for high grades some design modification may be required.
Treatable Flow
The Mirror Vane trap is suitable for treating flows from as low as a 3 month ARI to a 100 year ARI.
We don't treat the "first flush", we treat the whole flow for the duration of the event.

Configuration
Size
The size of the Dual Vane Trap is dependent on the:
- Cross Sectional area of the Water Source,
- Velocity,
- Treatable Flow
To give you an idea of sizing here is a sample set of configurations.
Cross Sectional Area | Height | Width | Length |
---|---|---|---|
0.16m2 (450 pipe) | 1.2m | 3.6m | 3.5m |
0.28m2 (600 pipe) | 1.4m | 4.2m | 4.5m |
0.87m2 (1050 pipe) | 1.8m | 7.0m | 7.5m |
1.13m2 (1200 pipe) | 2.0m | 8.0m | 10m |
Cross Sectional Area | Height | Width | Length |
---|---|---|---|
0.16m2 (450 pipe) | 1.8m | 3.6m | 4.1m |
0.28m2 (600 pipe) | 1.9m | 4.2m | 5.3m |
0.87m2 (1050 pipe) | 2.8m | 7.0m | 8.8m |
1.13m2 (1200 pipe) | 3.0m | 8.0m | 10.1m |
Note: These figures are indicative only and do not represent the largest or smallest sizes we can treat. If you need an estimate size for your plans please contact us and we will be able to provide this information to you over the phone if you can provide some or all of the Site Requirements.
Lidded
The Mirror Vane trap is suitable as a lidded solution or as an open trap solution.
Pollutant Storage
The Mirror Vane trap utilised off-line storage.
Trap Access
Depending on the site and cleaning requirements the Mirror Vane trap can be accessed via a ramp or internal rungs.
Installation
Standard equipment and modular construction combine to make installation convienient with minimum interruption or alteration to existing conditions. Deep excavation is not a required with the Mirror Vane Trap.
Cleaning
Cleaning of the Mirror Vane Trap is dependant on the site requirements but any of the following can be used with this design of trap.
- Eductor Vacuum
- Clam Shell
- Manual
Please Note: If a trap is to be cleaned manually, there are minimal Occupation Health and Safety issues as the caputed pollutants are dry.
