Spill Containment
Spill Containment
The Spill Containment trap uses a specifically designed inclined rack to "skim" the Gross Pollutants out of the water flow and into a containment bay. This allows the fluid entering the trap to continue to the Oil and Sediment area. It's within the Oil and Sediment area that the Sediment being transported by the fluid can drop out and settle to the bottom of the Oil and Sediment area. It's also with the Oil and Sediment area that any Floating Contaminant will be contained.
The Spill Containment aspect of this trap is controlled by a gate in the outlet which is built into the Detention Weir. When an incident occurs in the proximity of the trap, like a known "Black Spot" on the roads, the emergency services simply activate the gate. All spillages on the road can then enter the Spill Containment trap. This removes the danger of having flammable fluids exposed for any long period of time.
We use the available energy in the water flow to transport the Gross Pollutants into the containment basket where is can drain dry upon the abatement of the flow. This is the basis of our catch phrase
Removing the Gross Pollutants to from the water flow into the containment bay is how we achieve "Dry Rubbish".
Where Used
The Spill Containment trap is used in sites with low to medium velocity flows where there is an available headloss (depth to invert) .
Site Requirements
Target Pollutant Class
The Spill Containment trap is targeted at capturing:
- the Gross Pollutant class of pollutants,
- the Sediment class of pollutants,
- the Floating Contaminant class of pollutants.
Water Sources \ Velocity
The Spill Containment trap is primarily used for sites with low to medium velocity flows. The Spill Containment trap is suitable for treating the following water sources:
- Pipes
- Curbs
Grades
The Spill Containment trap is suitable for grades from less than 0.05% to to any grade. Please note while we can cater for high grades some design modification may be required.
Treatable Flow
The Spill Containment trap is suitable for treating flows from as low as a 3 month ARI to a 100 year ARI.
We don't treat the "first flush", we treat the whole flow for the duration of the event.
Configuration
Size
The size of the Spill Containment Trap is dependent on the:
- Cross Sectional area of the Water Source,
- Velocity,
- Grade,
- Treatable Flow
T o give you an idea of sizing here is a sample set of configurations.
Cross Sectional Area | Height | Width | Length |

Note: These figures are indicative only and do not represent the largest or smallest sizes we can treat. If you need an estimate size for your plans please contact us and we will be able to provide this information to you over the phone if you can provide some or all of the Site Requirements.
Lidded
The Spill Containment trap is a lidded solution.
Pollutant Storage
The Spill Containment trap utilises both on-line and off-line storage.
Trap Access
Depending on the site and cleaning requirements the Spill Containment trap can be accessed using internal rungs.
Installation
Standard equipment and modular construction combine to make installation convenient with minimum interruption or alteration to existing conditions. Deep excavation is not a required with the Spill Containment trap.
Cleaning
Cleaning of the Spill Containment trap is dependent on the site requirements but any of the following can be used with this design of trap.
- Eductor Vacuum
- Manual
Please Note: If a trap is to be cleaned manually, there are minimal Occupation Health and Safety issues as the captured pollutants are dry.
